PepperMint 9 or 10 has already been mentioned. My LinuxMint 19.2 Cinnamon uses between 750 MB - 1500MB RAM memory. (LM18 uses a bit less sources than LM19). Sometimes things freshen up with a new install of the same LM18 Cinnamon. If nothing helps significantly I would advice you to try a new install. You can change/tweak several settings to speed up your LinuxMint Cinnamon in general. This adblocker Ublock Origin does make your Firefox a bit heavier at first, but perhaps the absence of images makes it a bit faster in the end? (Edit / Preferences / Privacy and Security / Autoplay / Block audio and Video).Additionally you can disable ALL images in Firefox with a simple click in the adblocker Ublock Origin. UncleTim, You can disable automatic playing of audio and video in the newest version of Firefox (69.0). So I just want to ask if there is a tweak or trick to loosen it up and make the OS or Cinnamon or Firefox work snappier or if there is a Linux version or browser that would really - I mean, really - make a difference. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. in short, I found myself thinking that I'd rather put up with slow Mint/Cinnamon than this. I have experimented with supposedly lighter versions of Linux over the past two weeks, but none was really that much better, or had something I didn't like. Those wretched little videos on practically every site really make it gag. It chokes now at opening two or three tabs in Firefox. I have noticed it getting slower and the HD being busy and bogging down for long periods, mainly in connection with Firefox use/internet activity. It is the perfect size for work and traveling - I'd like to keep it as long as possible. I converted it to Mint after a couple years and it has served me very well. I have a netbook I bought in 2010 with the Atom 1.66 processor and 1 GB of RAM.
